Technology has transformed many industries over the years, and writing is one of them. The increase in artificial intelligence in the writing industry has been called a ‘threat’ to writers, but writing is all about originality. There are many things technology cannot take away from us, including our own intelligence and abilities. The following are some skills as writers you can work on in order to stay ahead of any emerging AI.
1. Check your facts
When writing anything, make sure you can back up your facts by citing your sources. While an AI model can fact check to a certain extent, it is the job of humans to know what a trusted source is and what isn’t.
2. Be an expert on your topic
Again, AI bots can gather information from a wealth of sources, but they’re never going to have the knowledge that an expert on the topic has. This is where originality also comes into it. An AI bot is never going to have the experiences that we as humans do.
3. Focus on quality
As a writer, you should be used to writing pieces of varying different lengths. This is something AI bots can also do quite quickly. They have the ability to spit out long articles quicker than we could ever write them, but quantity is not always a good thing. Focusing on quality makes us as humans better writers than AI.
4. Add your personality
One thing AI is never going to take from us is personality. Combine all of your skills and add your own twist and your writing will be much more exciting to read than a bot’s.
