Does Facebook’s new Bulletin tool have potential for writers?

For people who have been writing for decades, the internet is both a blessing and a curse. It’s opened up all sorts of new opportunities, and the ability to seek work, research it and write it up from anywhere with an internet connection is a godsend.

The downside is that internet users have become used to not paying for content, which means that although that are infinite opportunities to write online, making money from it is a real challenge.

That’s not to say it’s not possible though, and it’s a positive to see some of the internet’s biggest names facilitating it. Recently, Facebook launched a new platform called Bulletin in an effort to support independent writers and other content creators. Not unlike on YouTube, you can use it to subscribe to creators’ accounts and even access exclusive content if you sign up for a premium package.

It sounds great for writers, but before you get too excited, it seems Facebook has already decided it has its quota of creators, having cherry-picked them itself, and it has now closed applications.

Some sort of heads-up from Facebook might have been nice, but it may be worth keeping an eye on Bulletin should Facebook be on the lookout for another batch of creative folk in the future.
